Well, just last week I sold my 1990 200 TQ 20V. I discussed upgrades for it
with my wife and she pretty much siad NO. I then asked her if I sold the
car if I could use all the money for the sale on another car and she said
YES.
After a lot of thinking and searching I located a 1989 CQ 20V (German
Spec). I am paying the equivalent of $900 for it. It ahs a few things
wrong with it that I know of for sure. #1. The engine is bad. They can't
tell me what is wrong, but they say it is bad. #2. The front edge of the
hood has been sanded and covered with Gray Primer (The car is black) #3.
The passenger side rear Taillight is cracked and the body has a small dent
under the light.
As far as the engine goes, I have located someone over here that has a
1.8T that is already installed in a Type 89 chassis. He has wrecked the
car, but wants to sell the engine, wiring harness, and computer for around
$2000 delivered. He even said he would help with the install. He says the
engine is putting out around 230 HP. I have also located a few used 7A
engines for about 1/2 to 1/3 of that price.
Has anyone on the Coupe list ever done this swap? What is everyone's
opinion on this installation. I do have pictures of the wrecked car with
the engine still installed if anyone is interested.
