I wouldn't worry so much about the oil temparature if that's the reading 
you're getting (the first tick mark between 60 and 130?).  If that's the 
case, then it seems like one crazy coincidence that my car runs at exactly 
the same temparature...and has run at that temperature since day one about 
2.5 years ago.

I have been able to budge the needle above that reading a couple of times, 
but best not talk about the driving I had to do to get it there.

As to the 100 degrees story sounds good, but remember also that 90 degrees 
was a best guestimate for what that tick mark represents.

The 90 temp you described sounds a bit cool to me.  I've heard that we =
need temps slightly exceeding 100 degrees C in order to boil off =
moisture that condenses in the engine crankcase after cool-down.  This =
scenario makes sense to me and the oil cooler thermostat is designed to =
adjust accordingly.  Problems occur with petroleum based oil when it =
gets too hot (140 degrees C) and begins to break down, this break-down =
temperature is even higher with current synthetics. =20
