Brian,
Sounds like you've been making too many hard right turns under boost :-)...I
have done quite a lot of thinking and asking folks about this one, and my
impression is that switching to the AAN baffle will yeild an improvement
over the stock 3B windage tray, but the optimum solution is to actually
modifiy the windage tray suck that it fits in with the AAN baffle. I haven't
removed my pan, but the impression I get from the diagrams is that the AAN
restricts sloshing around the permieter of the pan, and the stock windage
tray provides coverage in the middle, so using both (with some modification
of the stock piece) yields superior baffling protection to using either
alone. Like I said-this is my understanding of the situation- I have not
attempted the modification myself or seen the inside of my oil pan. Alex
Neckas in Seattle offers a conversion service which includes the
modification.
This one is definitely on my to-do list.
HTH,
Jon

Subject: [200q20v] AAN oil baffle
Any BTDT on switching to the AAN oil pan baffle (034 103 623A)? Did it help
keep oil out of the intake? Or should my oil changes be 4.75 quarts
instead of 5?
I notice about a tablespoon of oil in the intercooler to intake hose, soon
after (5 quart) oil changes. If I fill up 4.75q I don't see much oil at
all. (I always change filter).
Would I be correct in assuming that I'm sucking oil liquid or vapor,
through the crank case breather, aided by high boost, high rpm's?
thanks
Brian
