source for roof rack bars?

i am looking for replacement bars for the oem rack on the avant,  not
the cross bars but the tubes that run length wise on the rack...all of
the chrome on mine has gone elsewhere.  any lister have any ideas on
this?  went to the dealer and first the parts guy insisted that the oem
rack was aftermarket [!] and then he fell back on the fact that he had
no part numbers for them and would have to call audi [!!].  that was
two days ago and still no response
