Leaky Oil Sending Unit???

The sending unit itself is all WET with oil for its bottom half. Above,
and around where it screws in, there's oil grime, but not a lot of
wetness. The front of the pan itself has no appreciable oil and the areas
farther up above where the sending unit screws in are only a little
stained. Wouldn't a seal leak run more down the front of the pan?
