never ignore idiot lights

Yes, the story has a happy ending.
Coming back from the vet's, auto check pops up the red coolant sign
along with the "I'm gonna DIE NOW" screech. Since I've always
preached you should never ignore idiot lights, I pull over.
Good thing.
My current guess is that I forgot to install one of the mounting
bolts for the auxiliary radiator when I had it partially off during
my coolant change. Looking around, I had coolant splashed everywhere
on the passenger side...and looking down, I noticed the shaft of the
alternator was firmly implanted in the corner of the aux radiator,
and coolant was slowly leaking out.
Given the rather nippy temperatures, I'm going to just bypass the aux
radiator with some Home-Depot-sourced fittings, and set about finding
a replacement.
Moral of the story? Never ignore idiot lights. They're there for a reason...

PS:AAA provided their usual lackadaisical service. Grumpy driver who
was 20 minutes late. So far, in the half dozen times I've needed
them, AAA has never once managed to be on time. Why? AAA quotes
arrival times based on regular trucks, never flatbeds. Oh, and the
company that supposedly took the job didn't show up- one of the other
AAA companies in town did. Lovely. Too bad there are few
alternatives.
