Chi,

<<Are fuel injectors wear items that need to be replaced
at some mileage interval...>>>

I guess everything wears out or breaks eventually, but no, IMO these are not
something to replace on regular intervals like belts or filters.

<<...or can I have them cleaned and use them for another 50k to 100k
miles?>>

Yes they can be checked and cleaned. I would recommend cleaning IF you
suspect trouble with the injectors. Many fuel injectors live as long as the
cars do.
I suspected mine were dirty a couple of years ago and testing showed that
they were in fact pretty dirty. The engine seemed a bit smoother after the
cleaning but no fuel mileage increases.

<<If they are wear items then I'll just save up for a
set and not bother getting these cleaned, if not I'll
pop them out and send them to maren... are these the
right guys? (http://www.injector.com)>>

That's where I sent mine and I was very happy with their service. They came
back with a printout of before/after conditions and had new o-rings
installed.
