Steve,
Not likely a loss of vacuum, since the lock system doesn't depend on
holding vacuum in order to _remain_ locked. To be _un_locked, the
system must be pressurized by the vac/pressure pump. Your problem
would appear to be something causing a spurious signal to pressurize
(sent to the pump). Could this be one of the effects stemming from a
"broken wire" in the door (hinge area) harness?

The only "manual" unlocking procedure I've seen (posted by Steve
Bucholtz) involves opening the trunk and applying pressure  to the
system--with a bicycle pump--via the vac hose connected to the trunk
lock.
