Fuel Line

I too had the metal line by the filter crimp and leak so I had to cut it.
I replaced the fuel line with steel braided fuel line and clamps like the 
sound of your repair. This was a 10V turbo.  Although the line is rubber the 
metal braiding made me feel better about the "spice".
I sold the car.
But I made the repair intending to drive it for years.
