Fuel Pump replacement?

Somebody had mentioned earlier this week that they intended to replace their
fuel pump. Just was curious on the rational behind this. I remember that
the fuel pump was making noise, but don't recall if it had actually out and
out failed.
Reason I ask, is to say if that's your only problem (noise), I wouldn't
worry about it. My fuel pump has been making noise on startup for the last
year and a half plus, the car continues to start, and noise subsides within
the first 5-10 seconds of operation. So hate to say it, but "dfiiiab." Or
something like that.
For the uniinitated, that's "don't fix it if it ain't broke." Gramatical
issues, yes; executional issues, no!
