About two months after my brother got his license, my parents lent him my
mothers stock 20v. At 105-110 MPH, he lost control and slid off the road.
It totaled the car. About two weeks prior to that, my folks flew me up to
put a new suspension on it. Why did my brother wreck??? He was to busy
adjusting the stereo WHILE driving around a corner in the dark when he came
up to a truck that did not have his lights on. He slammed the brakes, lost
it. I rebuilt the car AGAIN. My mother is till driving it. Now has almost
180K on it.
Just one month ago, another 16 year old brother did 13K in damage to their
2001 Passat 4Motion. This was 2 months after he did 1K of damage to it.
And also was done with a suspension on his license.
What kind of a car did I get when I turned 16?? A Chevy Suburban 6.2 diesel
with a trillion miles on it. BTW, now it has a 454 SS from a Chevelle SS in
it. Now, it COOKS. Did I ever wreck a car?? Sure, but it was not due to
speed. I rear ended someone in the Suburban. Why?? I had 1 ton of stuff in
the back and I was not paying attention. What kind of damage did it due to
me?? None. Other guy? His Cherokee was totaled. They guy in front of him
a pickup had 1K$ in damage.
Anyway, I say buy the kid a 2K$ tank, let him wreck it. Oh, I get first
dibs on the 3B when he totals it.
As far as reliability goes, they are great, but as all Audis go, they do
need their fair share of work. If he is not a smooth shifter, the syncros
will go bad. 3 of my siblings learned to drive on my mother 20v. It has
had 2 trannys and will need a 3rd eventually.

Enough Audis to give plenty of headaches.
