Let's see, someone (on this list) had the following words of wisdom:
"Old cars don't deserve new parts."
But like much of that kind of "wisdom", it's very often pennywisdom
and pound-foolishness.

Check the fuel pump write-ups in Chris Millers web site (also Scott
M's site). For the new style (43 mm,thin) pump you'll need more than
a new hose (although the old hose can be made to work). You also need
an adapter, which Audi--for unfathomable reasons--calls a "spring pin
adapter".

The check valve is now built into the new style Bosch pump. Don't
know about the Pierburg version.
