200q20v Digest, Vol 3, Issue 6

This AM sudden pulsing pop, pop, pop in right rear Boze speaker. Doing it
with engine on or off. Not too loud, but steady - engine rpm makes no
difference - it did it steadily for my entire 20 min. drive. Never had a
problem before now of any kind with the stock Boze system.

Any BTDT?
Thanks,
Neil Vonhof, Seattle

You can actually get the boots from the dealer. I did about 4 years back.

I though they were. I had posted the same question sometime back, re.
balljoint boots for the 4kqs - not available, but the Type 44 ones were from
the dealer.

You may want to double check at the dealer.

Agree with Ingo on the other point though - if you have worn bushings. then
replace the entire control arm. thepartsconnection had them.

Chuck,

The boots are still not available separately AFAIK. In this instance I'd
just replace the entire control arms and be done with it. Plus you'll have
saved the hassle of pressing out the old inner bushings and pressing in the
new ones :-)

One angle would be to replace the whole control arm. As far as I know, the
boots are not available seperately. When I replaced suspension pieces, I
damage the boot as well. As luck would have it, if you buy a bug
ball-joint, and unfortunately I don't remember if there's several diameters,
the ball joint boot diameters are compatable with our vehicles.

Believe me, I know. I've been using one for about 60k now.

I was able to purchase the lower control arm boots for the ball joint from
Blau a few years ago so he may still have them available.

Crew:

I replaced the sway bar bushing with a universal (sized to the bar)
Polyurethane from Energy suspension. Great cheap upgrade. You will need a
drill press and some home depot stock flat steel or aluminum to make a plate
to ride above the bushing and through the stock bolts. Don't forget to
lock-tight the bolts. Don't make the plate to thick or you will need longer
bolts.

http://www.energysuspension.com/swaybb.html

They also make poly ball joint covers, which I used on my 2002tii.

http://www.energysuspension.com/tie_r.html

While I'm at it, A fellow at Ireland engineering in CA, made me an amazing
hollow front sway bar for my tii, which ran under the oil pan from control
arm to control arm and was a truly impressive improvement. The whole thing
was around $130,and weighted about 6 pounds.

Group Interest? Group buy?

Hi guys,

Where do I go for new rear window seals for my 91 Avant? The original ones
are looking very bad and I would love to replace them.
The door seals front and rear are also showing their age.

Any BTDT's would be appreciated,

I would check the coilpacks or POS. Is it related to boost only, or is it
MPH sensitive, how about does it do it more when cold or hot???

Subject: [s-cars] Questions regarding hesitation during acceleration

Hi Guys,

I have two quick questions, but first a little background info:

Last week when driving on the express way I got on the throttle pretty hard
and felt a lot of hesitation. There was no sound (that I could hear) just
the
hesitation. I backed off and drove a steady 85 mph to my destination with no
problem. Opened the hood and noticed a half inch rip in the hose from the
Turbo
to the BPV etc..Great I thought and bought the hose. Well, I just installed
the new hose and took the car for a spin and it still hesitates once the
boost
rises. I double checked the clamps to know avail.
So here are my questions:
Will a bad O2 sensor make the car hesitate during heavy acceleration? (I
recall I had this problem with my 200 some years ago, but it is not that
fresh in
my mind.)

Where else would you suggest that I should be looking?

Thanks in advance,

My 200tq20v has the Bose audio system. I have heard that there are ten
speakers in this vehicle. Dash and Door components (separate woofers and
tweeters) as well as 6x9s in the rear. I am looking at replacing the Bozo
audio system entirely and am curious as to what the fornt speaker sizes
are. I have heard everywhere from 5 1/4" to 6 1/2", so what are they? How
deep are the stock locations? I'm looking at either Infinity, MB Quart or
Polk Momo components and I want to know what sizes work? Do any of you
have either of these, which sound better?

Steve,

The info you have is wrong. The Bose System as fitted in the '91 200q20v
and '90-94 V8 consists of only four full-range speakers:

Two approx 4" (proprietary Bose size with three mounting holes) -- one in
each front door -- and two 6 x 9's in the rear deck (even though the rear
deck grills look like 6"). The Dash mount speakers are 3.5" I believe
(haven't messed with them yet), but only the right front actually has a
speaker mounted there -- and it is only used for the hands-free function of
the Audi armrest analog Motorola Phone.

I'll e-mail you some info off list (as much has already been covered). If I
had to do it again, I'd probably go with MB Quart all around, though both of
the systems I installed sound much better than the Bose before it.
