200q 20v shift linkage

So, I'm staring another dreaded job in the face:  1st and 2nd are getting 
tough to engage, and my shifter has a general sloppiness to it.  

Has anyone repaired the linkage on their quattros?  Part numbers?  Sources?  
Success stories?  Tales of utter frustrations leading to cars being abandoned 
in the middle of cow fields?

Any help would be appreciated.
