K&N filters bad?

I have had one in my avant for over 100k with no issues.  I had my car 
chipped by Anderson Motor Sports in Minnesota, and they strongly recommended it.  I 
clean it about once a year (25k miles).  I have never found any dirt, dust of 
crud in my plumbing down stream of it, (a little oil in the MM hose).  However 
I do know of people who have over oiled them and polluted their MAF's.  I 
also put one in a V twin motorcycle that I have, and noticed a large seat of the 
pants power improvement.
