winter oils

I do not think automobile oil specs in the 1980's and 1990's were written
considering the better cold flow characteristics of synthetics.

A good synthetic 10w30, 10w40, or even 15w50 will probably work fine for
winter in most of the USA. I the extreme northern regions of the USA or
Canada you might go with 5w30. I run Amsoil synthetic 10w40 or 10w30 as my
winter oil.

I know some people that run 5w30 synthetic year round because they feel
that the thinner oil offers the benefit of getting oil moving sooner in the
summer as well.

YMMV,
Eric
