interior door handle

My cable (rod, really; it's solid) gave way last year near the latch end and I've had a new one laying
arould for months waiting to install. Meanwhile the temporary fix while the part was on order
continues: reversed the remaining cable (i.e. so the hook on the front/handle end is now hooked to
the latch) and put a small Vise-Grip on the forward/bare end to actuate the latch. (The panel is still
off; looks pretty tacky.) (I'm waiting for a miracle cure to make the driver's window run smoother
and quieter before I replace the cable. Prob not a wise wait, though. Got any advice?)
My outside handle had been very stiff intermittently the last few years; what about yours. One post
I had found in the archives mentioned this and the solution was simply greasing the latch well (i.e. the
contact surfaces inside and out) so I plan to do that too.

Andy,
It uses a cable that runs from the door handle to the satch mechanism
in the door. Either the hole in the handle broke, the cable broke or
slipped out(yeah, right), or the latch broke. It's a pretty simple
system, though.

I have attempted to find reference to this problem or specifics in the bentley to no avail. I must admit that I always seem to have problems searching the archives so it may have been addressed but I am unable to find it. If there is no specific info, I assume just remove the interior door panel and figure it out. Any BTDT's before I delve into this?
