Who sells the multi-malfunction temp switches?

No, this is not correct--you use the _same_ MFTS connector. There are
mixed opinions about 3 vs 4 connector sensors. It's not uncommon for
either version to fail within a matter of a few years time, but the
3-pin version is perhaps a bit less robust than the 4-pin. When the
3-pin version first came out, I believe it was considerably cheaper
than the 4-pin. Nowadays I'm not sure if that's still true, but
actually you might have a tough time finding the 4-pin version. IMHO,
it's not a major thing, one way or the other.
The MFTS is widely available at most Audi parts vendors--don't know
who are the ones you use--I suggest you try places such as
