Distributor gear replaced, no start

This may very well be the issue as I did not check cam timing at all.  (Is
that cover hard to remove?)  

In regard to the flywheel mark and per the instructions in the link below, I
have found the 0 mark on the flywheel and the "flat shaped edge" in the
transmission mounting hole that is shown in the picture, I also have a line
scribed in the metal adjacent to that flat-shaped-edge on that same piece of
metal (the part that does not rotate).  I lined the 0 up with that prior to
disassembly, not the flat shaped edge.  I suspect that this may have been
incorrect.
