I ended up getting a Pierburg off Ebay, from Shokan, for $180 shipped.  It fit perfectly in the original plastic assembly, including the strainer basket.  It also used the original Banjo fitting (without the dampener) and the electrical connection was the same as original.  In short a perfect fit, all parts required included (zip ties, cap nut, banjo washers) and perfectly silent. 
This was for a car that had never been "upgraded" to the smaller (43mm) pump.
So far, so good.
