Fuel pump Question

I had a noisy pump on my V8 and went in with a new one ready to replace.  I
found that the small screen on the intake was clogged with lint.  I decided
to just clean that and not replace the pump to see what would happen.  The
pump has not made noise since, going on 6 years.
