alternators issues

My alternator started not charging properly, 11.5-12.5V,  while I was on
a trip.  I pulled a spare (never used rebuilt), out of the back and put
it in, threw out 13.6-14.0V.  looked at the receipts, both are 2.5 years
old.  Now the new one (2.5 yr old rebuilt never used one) is doing the
same thing. After two weeks?????  Wtf ??  this is either defying the
odds or is there something frying these things?   I've actually not been
beating on the auto for a change (urq beating season).    Any btdt,
thoughts etc. appreciated.
