91 Avant driver's window disappears

I rebuilt the driver's door window regulator a couple of times.  Went
through the swivel pin dance, restrung the cable, fiddled with various other
repairs, and the last time the whole thing failed about 4 years ago I tossed
it out and bought a replacement from Blau.  It is made in Italy, has much
more robust cable clamping, and has worked great ever since. 

The one thing I do recommend is replacing the cable pulleys with ball
bearing brass and stainless pulleys made for sliding screen door
applications - available at any home store for a few bucks.
	
By the way, regulators are often and presently on eBay for cheap......
