200q20v - broken windshield

Hi all,
so, all's well that ends well. i went to US Autoglass in hayward, ready to accept off-brand glass (GGN) with rubber trim in place of the stainless. i simply couldn't locate the stainless trim anywhere nor could i find the OEM Sigla glass. Pilkington doesn't make a windshield for the car.
the guys knew what they were doing. i mentioned again about trying to save the existing trim and they said it's nearly impossible because the stainless trim has sheet metal tabs that dig into the A pillar to secure it. you have to mangle the trim just to get the windshield out.
THE GOOD NEWS is that the guy looked on the computer and laughed. He said he doesn’t know why I was put on this wild goose chase, but they do have the stainless trim at their warehouse. LOL! He said it should work but it is aftermarket and NOT an audi part. Meaning it might not be a perfect fit. They worked their asses off installing the trim. Looks really nice! And it looks exactly like the rest of the window trim.
The GGN glass looks good too. Heck, regardless of the brand, it sure is nice to look through new glass. It’s like it isn’t even there. In retrospect, there were a lot of scratches and pits in the original windshield.
See ya,
Robby

Don’t know, never DIYed a windshield. But when I’ve had several replaced with OEM glass at local glass shops they told me that they had to order the trim as a seperate part. Glass shops will never try to remove glass in one piece to save it of trim, they just break it out. But it can be done with a tight wire cutter.

US autoglass depot in hayward. nice people, but first they quoted $169 for sigla glass. which, i figured was way too good to be true. it ends up being some off-brand, like GGN or something for $239. they carry pilkington, but were adamant that they don't make glass for the 200. which is odd, because they do for my wife's A4.
