H fasteners and water in the footwell area

Great timing about the H clips for the chrome on the grill, I was just
about to inquire about these parts too since the replacements I added
a couple of years ago popped off and I don't know where the garage I
used before in NYC, got them. On a separate issue, any ideas what may
be causing water to leak in the passenger/driver footwell areas when
running the A/C? As much as a 1/2 inch of water will accumulate
before draining or evaporating (overnight). No hoses are blocked.
I'm currently out of the country and left the '91 200 TQ 20 valve with
an Audi dealer in the DC area about 8 weeks ago and I received an
email that stated there is a part broken (not further identified) and
it is no longer available so there is nothing they can do. The dealer
is not in my home area and I'll be picking up the car when I return
stateside and heading back to VT so this is something I'll have my
local garage look into. However there's more collective knowledge in
this forum than I can ever hope to receive from my local mechanic.
Right now I cannot be more specific than water leaking somewhere
behind the carpet. I'm not confident that the Audi dealer will have a
specific explanation for the problem, other than that something is
broken. I don't recall noticing any other details that may pinpoint
the specific area where it's leaking, but both driver and passenger
sides get wet. This was a consistent problem for about four weeks
before I left and I tried to get it fixed but the garage initially
thought it was because drain hoses were blocked, but they checked the
hoses as well as something else that can cause this problem because of
leaves accumulating on some type of filter and that proved to be a
dead end. And no, the leak does not happen when it's raining and the
a/c is off. The Audi dealer's initial suggestion was to replace the
windshield. When I pick up the car and start the a/c for the drive
back home on Monday, I'll probably have more details/observations I
can pass along. Thanks in advance.
