audilary fan is acting "moody"

hi all,

driving home a few days ago - the temp gauge went past the usual spot where the 
aux fan turns on. the car never got close to hot, but it was unnerving.

i noticed that there was a big draw on the voltage gauge when the fan should 
turn on. like a split second, then the gauge went back, but the fan did not turn 
on. but it seems it was trying to turn on.

when i pulled into the driveway, the fan did switch on.

is there some thermal relay that's suspect or is the aux fan on it's way out?
