Actually it's called a "fusible link" that connects the fan motor to
ground (not power). They routinely go bad from flexing or other
stresses (thermally induced?) which cause a hairline crack that can
be *very* hard to see. A replacement link from the dealer (!) costs
only a buck or two, so don't hesitate to see your favorite dealer and
order a couple of 'em.
