My first regulator failed at 150k, the alternator shaft was worn out at
200k.

thanks,
how long do the regulators last usually? i thought the alternators
themselves
were pretty stout?
regardless, the light shouldn't dim and the engine shouldn't stumble when
the
aux fan kicks on, right?
i'll get a voltmeter and test.

You should also verify with good multimeter, my dash gauge often read
below
actual voltage, if you rehab the instrument cluster it usually fixes this
and
other issues.
Maintaining clean connections to fan and headlamps is always a good idea,
especially with euro lites, brighter bulbs etc.

Normal at idle speed.
Go to the Bosch web site. Should be listed for stock alternator.
