voltage regulator

Getting on this thread a bit late, did you check the wire connection on the 
 alternator, and the big cable splice (that supposedly fails) in the 
passenger  foot well?  Basically run around with a meter and read voltage on 
different  places.  Should be some stuff in the archives from a few years ago.

(because the mechanic who replaced it,  didn't tighten it enough - so

Did you try a cold start after  charging the battery for a while, might 
have also 
been that thermal switch  sitting in a puddle of coolant also?
