Thanks for mentioning this. The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix has become a
car-guy carnival for 10 days every July. Friday, July 16th there is an HP
Driver's School at BeaveRun www.beaverun.com race track along with the test
& tune sessions for vintage racers. Saturday and Sunday are qualifying and
vintage racing at BeaveRun. They also have autocross and karting. There
are several events throughout the week, then more vintage racing Saturday
and Sunday (7/24-25) at Schenley Park. This is the only race of its kind
still held on (closed) public city streets. Drivers really seem to like the
course and there's always a wide variety of cool race cars. If that isn't
enough, there's a big international car show on the golf course at Schenley.
Last year BMW was featured marque and they drew a huge showfield. There
were also some very rare historic cars and an ex-David Hobbs 3 series IMSA
race car. I don't expect mother Audi to bring pre-war Auto Unions, but it
would be great to see a good turnout of vintage Audis. Next year P-cars
will be featured.
The PVGP has a good web site www.pvgp.org with tons of photos and links to
the events. A volunteer staff (of 1200!) makes this event happen every
year, there is no cost for spectators, procceds are from race/show entries,
sale of mdse, and contributions.
It's a great event. All proceeds from the entire PVGP go to charities like
Autism Society and Allegheny Valley School. I am actually on the Italian
car show committee so I don't know what else is planned for the Audi Corral.
