Slight hesitation

I noticed yesterday that when I had the accelerator floored to pass a
vehicle, the 200 20V TQ got up to speed quickly but there was slight
hesitation while building up speed. This happened twice on the trip
and again only when the accelerator was floored. I seem to recall
that this might be a sign that the clutch may be going. The car has
139,000 miles and has the original clutch. Has anyone encountered
this problem? I'm hoping it won't be a clutch problem that requires
repair in the near future. The Audi is due for a timing belt change
and tires during the summer, that's enough expenses for me for the
year. TIA. Scott
