audi bose radio safe mode

hi all,

my battery died a few weeks ago. radio went into safe mode. i got this particular head unit from a friend. he wrote two codes on the unit itself as he couldn't remember which one.

well, us being the morons we are - entered the one that wasn't correct, then mistyped the correct one ;-)

so, now the radio has locked us out. i figured i'd just try it after it reset (the manual says in about an hour). i assumed you could just leave the radio off and try it again later.

flash forward two weeks...well, it still won't unlock. upon re-reading the manual, it said i have to leave the radio ON for an hour or two? really? just drive around aimlessly or risk killing the battery with the radio on in my garage - just to reset it?
