200 20V Knock sensor

The rebuilt motor I have has a suspect front knock sensor.
Plug is a four prong IIRC.

I'll get the part number later tonight.
Anyone have one in great shape?

Louis-Alain,
If the switch is the same as in the early Type 44's, in order to pull the
ignition key cylinder you will need to drill the cast aluminum steering
housing to push in the retaining spring which keeps the assembly in the
column. Once released, the assembly will look like:
http://europartsamerica.com/parts/product_details/443905855A
Notice that the whole assembly, including 2 matching keys is less than 15
bucks US! (Trick is, you'll need to have somebody in the US order the
part....Europarts America is very difficult to order from in Canada IME)
Once you have swapped the ignition cylinder, changing the door, glove box
and trunk locks to work with the ignition keys is relatively easy.
Cheers!

I have a 1990 Audi 100 TQ Sport Exklusiv with the MC2-engine - vin L-117-450.
It has done about 142500 miles.

Over the last two years / 12500 miles I have replaced
all sensors, almost every vacuum/pressure hose thinkable, brand new Bosch
injectors,
brand new TPS and the fuel filter. I have checked the different fuel pressures
and they are to spesification. All ignition parts have also been replaced with
OEM-parts within this time period.

I have installed an ecu chipped by MTM. With this ecu the car managed 0,6 (1,6
on the computer in the dashboard). I then installed a stiffer WG-spring. And now
I've got the following problem:
If/when the car boosts 0,6 (1,6 in the computer/display in the dashboard) and
goes over 4000-4500 rpm, the car misfires badly. I'm quite sure it's not fuel
cut, because that feels like
knocking your head against the windscreen.

I've read fault codes, but the car reports "4444" = no fault found.

What could be wrong?

Any clues, hints or tips?

Paul Van Dyke ft Vega 4 - Time of our Lives. Vega 4 is the lead singer from
Dirty Vegas. This one came out around 2003 during the Ice fest pics which
is partly why I used it. It's a little bit of a concern because YouTube
recognized it and I'm concerned they'll remove the video, but they haven't
so far.

Maybe that door lock was replaced and not rekeyed?

Does the key operate the other door, trunk, & glovebox?

Are you in communication with MTM? I would hope that they would be
available to help you with your troubleshooting.

The first thing I would do if I were in a similar position would be to check
the exhaust oxygen while the engine was misbehaving ... I'd suspect the
engine is running lean because the fuel can't keep up. You may also want to
verify the crank/cam/distributor timing. On the WX engine marginal timing
on the Hall Sender can cause engine running problems at higher RPMs. You
say that you have looked at the sensors ... have you looked at the flywheel
teeth and the reference pin? As the RPM goes up the signals from the VR
Sensors can deteriorate to where something that is marginal at lower RPMs is
unreadable at higher RPMs.

If you haven't done so already you may want to check out Scott Mockry's
website for troubleshooting info:

    http://www.sjmautotechnik.com

Good luck!

Scott, It is the same radio.

893-035-093-CX "Delta US II" with "Audi Bose" on the front. "X" means
re-manufactured. But I got the very last one.

Still http://www.midwestelectronics.com/repairs will happily fix any
broken power/volume control for slightly over $100 for those like myself
who want to keep original audio. I was about to send mine there but came
across this post, Thanks a lot Louis-Alain!

However I still don't understand why nobody tried to re-use existing
amplifiers since all new Blaupunkt radios have line out! Blaupunkt
Brisbane with SD card reader, USB and font AUX-in looks extremely
attractive.

Just saw the car tonight. It is indeed in very good shape, virtually no rust, it
is Zermatt silver with blue cloth interior. It is a Typ 44. The car has 222 000
km, which is 140 000 miles and is in a garage since 2004.

I brought the urQ key just to see, and if fits 5 out of 7 tumblers perfectly
(the driver?s door lock cylinder is still not reinstalled ). So making a rough
key should be relatively easy, but I will try the 3 mm hole too if need be.

Now the big question is : is that car worth the amount of time and money I will
spend on it, even if it?s free ?

It will need, just to get it on the road once we have the key :
- a new big diesel battery,
- all fluids,
- a power steering hose (or brake booster hose, or both?),
- 4 new tires (185/70R14?)
- or 4 used 15x6 and 4x108mm wheels (I have 16x 205/60R15 tires here but all on
5 bolt wheels),
- parking brake cables,
- probably new front rotors and pads,
- new belts, maybe a used alternator too (aren?t alternators prone to seize when
stopped for a long period ?)

I think it is a lot of job for a ?lot car?, a car I will use only each Monday
morning for 40 miles when I switch between press cars. It will then sit for the
remainder of the week awaiting my return. And whose value will never reach a
substantial amount.

What do you think ?

I think most people on this forum are here because they love to drive in an
audi. If value were an option, I would've junked mine a long time ago. I say put
it on the road, so that every monday you could break a few necks on the road
when you drive by them.
