Jim-
First things first. "CLEAR YOUR CODES". You may be reading stored codes and your likely wasting time chasing whims (and the whims of 20 other listers). Now crank it over for 6 sec and check again. You can usually ignore the speed sensor code, which will keep coming up until you have a successful start.
2nd. Pull a plug. Is it wet? Good! Now ground it and check for spark while you crank it.
Now check your codes again.
Now it's time to entertain whims like: bad grounds, bad coil, bad computer. I know it's fun learning how to unplug brittle 20 year old molex connectors and wrestle with spring steele distributor clips, but your killing me here! Start with the basics..... Then replace the bad coil :)
My 2c for your 2c,
Doc-
By the way, what color is this time capsule. If it's pearl white, I'll fly out and help you.... Aloha

I did manage to release the distributor cap, and confirm the rotor is
turning, but getting the 2 metal clips back into position proved too much
for me. Do you need to remove the intake manifold to see what you are
doing, or is it all by blind touch?

If you just need to reattach the distributor cap, I've found it's
easier (Note:still far from being easy) if you get the rear clip hooked
up and then do the more forward one. You can sort of see the forward
one through the gap between the intake manifold and the valve cover and
push on it with a broad screwdriver to get it hooked up.
If you find you just can't get this process started, removing the
throttle body will give you enough space to reach in to do the rearward
clip, a great tip I got from George Sidman while I was struggling with
distributor removal. If you take off the intake manifold, you have to
replace a $30 gasket.
