Using George Sidman's suggestion to pull the throttle body, I got to the distributor hold-down nut, got
the dizzy out (it's a replacement with the metal gear), crunched off the ugly rotor with the turned up
ends to its contact strip, cleaned up the shaft with some emory cloth, installed the new rotor sans
adhesive--rotor goes on pretty snugly, requiring some effort to seat it, so I really don't understand
the need for glue--and got the dizzy back in proper place after half a dozen tries and engine runs just
fine except for a continuing stumble under load. Removing the throttle body also made replacing the
heater valve easier.

Thanks to all for their helpful suggestions.
