Yes, definitely attend to the condition of the sliders & boots. Can't believe I forgot to mention that! I reckon my thinking must be somewhat influenced by the fact I've been tracking my cars, so I service the brakes (and lube sliders) at least once each year. But in "normal " use--meaning "abuse"--those sliders go neglected for years and years. So, to revise my earlier suggestion:  assure there's free movement of the sliders before doing anything else.
