200q20v Digest, Vol 95, Issue 16

In 15 years and various t44 ownership, the following issues have required a tow:
-1986 5KCSTQ - Oil Cooler line burst instantly dumping most of the engine oil on the road. (176,000 miles)
-1991 200 20v - Pulley on the alternator seized (140,000 miles).

With all the other issues experienced with these cars, I was able to get the car home or to a safe location using a quick fix or careful and attentive driving.

But I've had a second car at all times in case, as others have mentioned, you don't have the immediate time to repair the car or must wait for a part to arrive.

1. Just once, when a fuel pump fuse decided to blow at 108K miles about 6
years ago. I replaced the pump anyway.
2. Just three times, at the timing belt change, fuel pump replacement and
the driver-door lock repair during my 9 years of ownership.   Otherwise,
very reliable.

Let's get a show of hands here.

1. How many times has your 200q20v left you stranded?
2. How many times have you had to use an alternate car because your
200q20v was laid up for repairs?

It's understood lots of stuff breaks, and parts can be expensive, but
I guess what I'm trying to gauge is DEPENDABILITY, i.e. the degree to
which we can rely on the cars getting us to work in the morning and
home in the evening even if bits are dangling off and fluids are
gushing out.
