compression ratio?

Hmm...so Shayne won't allow, in his mind, the 3B CR to be more than what,
8.754:1 or something? MC1 was 7.8, MC2 8.4, so 3B can only increase another
.6 to 9.0? The Motronic may be 20 years old now but when the cars were new,
it was "state of the art" especially compared to the CIS-E 3 on MC1/2 :)
Maybe the chip mods are all (perhaps from more or less the same original
code source) doing things "right" and not overboosting? Which would probably
overspin the relatively small factory turbo anyway? If I recall there's
always a programmed decline in boost pressure with rpm using the stock
turbo, see SJM graphs. I'm sure if you get out a schrapnel-knobben and do it
manually ham-handed & "wrong" you can damage the engine.
If the 3B CR is not 9.3:1 then what is it really? Why would Audi lie about
this in all their publications? Who would that help? Is there a "published
compression ratio war" with BMW they were trying to win? Why would it be the
accepted figure for 20 years?
Wait a minute, why would he believe the MC2 ratio is 8.4:1? That's just what
"they" *want* you to think!!!
Maybe my B7 2.0T CR isn't really 10.5:1 either...

the friend is shayne pavlic - some here know him. he knows his way around
a 200 20V. he thinks it's too high and questions whether the 20 year old
motronic ECU is robust enough to prevent detonation with such a high
compression ratio. especially given that many of us have chipped cars.and
that the MC 10V CR is like 8.4:1.
but given that overboosting and damaging the engine is a rarity, he's
curious as to that long standing compression number.

It's a pretty well documented figure for the 3B. What authority source
would
convince your knowledgeable friend? Owner's manual, service manual,
wikipedia, has to measure it himself? Does he think that 9.3:1 is too high
or too low?
