Steaming Mad!

Never did the heater core, but did use the stake knife method on the fan.
First time a POA second time
1 1/2 hours.

Have fun, don't know if you dare try some snake oil sealer in the
antifreeze?

Apparently there was a slight leak in the core at one time and the
gunk/junk sealed it as it accumulated. The flushing dissolved the "plug" and now
it's leaking. (That's my take anyway.)

The cores are brass, some have aluminum fins.

There is a "steak knife" procedure in the archives (dozens of references )

Hi all-

No obvious coolant leaks in the engine bay, but my coolant level is
dropping very slightly and there is a wet rug behind the stereo head unit.
I also think my heater core is the culprit. Not a fun job, I'm sure.

Bernie: I back flushed the block due to rising oil temps. and found
excessive rust and scaling in the block. Solved the oil temp issue. I used
a Prestone citric acid based cleaner, flushed several times with tap water
then, distilled water. I fear the citric acid solution may have dissolved
some of the heater core. I should have known better than to use this type
of solution in an old iron and aluminum system.

Does anyone know if the heater core is Aluminum or Brass?

Any suggestions for a link to R and R the core?

When it rains, it pours,
