I have replaced 100+ front & rear window regulators over the years in 1984-1991 5000, 100 & 200 models + V8 models thru 1993 all done through the inner door opening (with-out removing the aluminum carrier assembly).
Removing & installing the "E" or "C" clip is the hardest part of the job, mostly done "by feel".
Usually there is a rubber washer on either side of plastic attached to the glass, followed by a white plastic washer & secured with the above mentioned clip.
The other important thing that I have found overlooked by some installers is not properly adjusting the "upper window limit" (screw adjuster) which can lead too damage of the door seal.
Later, Randy

Subject: Removing rear window regulator assy. Help!
Apparently the “tab“ attaching the cable to the “lifter pivot“ (the part that slides up and down the guide rail) moving the glass via a pivot pin thru the plastic glass attached bottom piece, is broken.
Further, apparently this lifter pivot pin has an E-ring keeping it in the glass plastic piece. If so,(?) visible only with a small inspection mirror, how does one remove the ring to free the regulator assy from the glass? No mention in Bentley! Please tell me that there is no retaining ring on the pin!
Thanks guys!
Bernie
