Well,

Today I pulled my starter and verified what I thought. The ignition
reference pin is sheared off flush with the forward face of the
flywheel. At least I know now. A little tight to get my air drill up
there but should be alright.

The complete mystery is how it got broken off? A piece of debris in the
bottom of the bell housing kicked up and snapped it? Not sure how this
could happen spontaneously. Frustrating. Hope that is the only thing now
keeping this car from running. Kneale Brownson sent me a picture of what
the thing is supposed to look like through the starter hole so I know I
am looking at the right thing. Tiny little thing like 1/8" diameter
maybe protruding 1/2". Totally took this car OUT!
