I think a major difference is that your Miata has a torsen as a rear diff,
whereas the Audi uses it as a center diff. Having played with many a 4x4 or
AWD vehicle in the snow, I am of the opin that the torsen is what makes
Audis "all that". Personally, I like the older Quattro systems with manual
locking center and rear diffs. The new EDL is okay, but the old system is
far superior if you know how to work it.
BTW, Quattro is simply a trademark anymore and does not tell us how a system
works or what it is comprised of.
