[A4] how spare is the spare?

Hello gang,

I'm somewhat confused by what the manual says about "equality" of
tires in a quattro car.

It says that "All four wheels must always have the same rolling
radius.  Different tires may ... damage the All Wheel Drive" - and (in
the same paragraph) - "The proper function of the system is not
affected by unevenly worn tires."

Case in point.  I recently nearly lost one tire (deep sidewall cut) -
and put on my spare tire.  The difference is 24,000 miles or about
2/16" (3mm).  Do I keep on driving like that or do I need to buy all 5
new tires?
