[A4] performance questions

Tipchip.  That's pretty much all there is. :-/

(I drive a 2001 A4 2.8Q)

Personally, I have not yet modified my car, but I have heard that the change
the tipchip brings about is not night-and-day.  Rather, it HELPS the slow
shifting, but does not completely fix it.

The car will always shift slowly from 1st into 2nd, no matter what we do.
But at least, the shift into second at WOT will take 1/2 second, rather than
1-full second (think about what 1/2 second means in quarter mile times!!).

Personally, I will not be chipping my tiptronic, though.  I have the
certified used car warranty - 100k mi powertrain protection.  I have 50k
miles on it right now.  If my transmission were to break, they would fix it
free.  If I chip it, they would not fix any problems I may have with the
transmission later on down the road for free.  On a Tiptronic Quattro, I'd
be looking at a $5000 to $9000 repair bill!!!

I've heard that AoA has put out a statement saying that our tiptronic
transmissions are not expected to last beyond 100,000 miles.

It's just not worth it for 1/2 second to me.  But if you don't have the
certification warranty, then I would recommend doing the tiptronic chipping
- because I've heard that the chip WILL NOT HURT your transmission.  In
fact, I've heard that it CAN HELP ITS LONGEVITY, in that your internal
clutch disks will be relieved of some of their duty because they will not be
semi-engaged between shifts for as long as normal.  This extends their life.

Please, correct me if I am wrong on any of this!!
