Define "a long time". In our 1997 A4 2.8Q with leather interior, it takes
around 10 minutes for the seat heaters to level off, maybe even upwards of
20 minutes. It has always been this way. We don't consider this a
problem.
Last January we drove a rented Cadillac DTS with heated *AND* cooled seats.
It took around half as long to level off as our Audi. The cooled seats
were very nice. It also had a heated steering wheel, which I probably
would have been quite happy to have had if it was cold out.
