My '03 A6 Avant "recommends" 10k intervals. I'll admit to the first couple
that way (it was leased at the time), but not since and I switched to synth
some time ago. Besides, the 3.0 has a large sump.
'98 A41.8tqms lost a turbo at @ 67k and I then upgraded to K04 (and
associated oil line, shield, etc), and no prob yet at 112k. Car ran dino
oil with rec dealer service till 47k when I bought it in '01 and immediately
switched to M1. A year ago or so I switched to Pentosynth, from our friends
that make our Pentosin, and at the same time the larger Mann oil filter.
Oh, I've always used 93 octane (PON) except once wife put 89 in A6 and asked
me why it didn't seeem to have the power it used to. That's how I found out
what she had put in.
I believe the 10k service was only for model yr '03. It didn't take them
long to learn their lesson on that one.
I'm leaning stongly towards the condition of our roads as the likely cause
of all of our suspension issues. I've had multiple control arms, tie rod
ends, and, I live in Michigan, notorious for having the worst roads,
especially in the Detroit metro area.
Just my .02

when was that, anyway? my 2000 A4 i could swear had 5k intervals.
the dealer did it all, of course. when i wrecked the engine though and it
had to be dismantled, i had them check for sludge and it was totally clean.
