[A4] '96 12V cold start problem

Hi Jason,

I have the same engine in my car, and it does idle poorly when it first starts
for just a few seconds. At the really low speeds it spins at during this
time, I don't think it would take much to stall it. When I got it serviced,
which involved something to do with the radiator leaking and replacing the
thermometer, I did notice an improvement in this. I also use fully synthetic
oil. Some people may say this is a waste of money, well when I bought it I
had just blown a sidewall on a pot hole, my spare was flat, and the oil was
low, so I nursed it to the nearest station and that's all they had that would
work. But, it might be what is making a difference.

You could also try the following:
Turning off the aircon (maybe it doesn't automatically disconnect when
starting)
make sure everything else is off to try and reduce load on the engine when
starting.

If it is a vacuum leak, wouldn't your power breaking and steering also be
affected?

cheers

Jon
