My tire plan for the Denver area (Fort Collins, to be precise) is:
Full on snow tires for the winter. I think we're running Blizzaks on
both our A4 and S4 right now. We were running Nokian Hakkipiletta (sp?)
and I was really happy with the snow performance, but on I-25 off-ramps
they were just all over the place. It was actually quite scary.
The rest of the year we're running fairly high performance tires:
Goodrich Comp TA ZR4 for the A4, and Comp TA KDW on the S4. The S4 I
run higher performance tires because I sometimes take it out to High
Plains Raceway.
The ZR4 class tires are great because they work extremely well in the wet
and I'm happy with them in the rain too. Snow isn't an issue because I'm
running snow tires for that.
So, that combination has been something I've been very happy with.
I'd highly recommend you look at going out to High Plains Raceway if you
like high performance driving. Look for the "PDX" Performance Driving
eXperience opportunities. For around $100 you can go out and get a half
hour on the track with an experienced racer along for the ride, and strict
rules on where you can pass, so it's fairly safe.
They also often on Fridays have an open track that you can go out and run
on, though it's pretty much no rules except no racing. That's around $100
for 4x 30 minute sessions, and is also a lot of fun. Though more risky.
