I agree -- if it doesn't slip in fourth or fifth gear at full throttle on
the highway, don't replace it would be my thinking, unless it's chattering

Our '97 A4 2.8 q has 201K miles on it, on the original clutch.  You said
your pedal has gotten softer, maybe you've just finally worn it in?  :-)
I'd flush and fill the clutch fluid first before talking about a clutch...

Oh, that cinches it then!  Don't do a clutch replacement before giving it
to a 16 year old!  Let them trash the one with 140K miles in it, and
replace it when they've figured out how to drive.  :-)  The clutch in my
first car lasted a year.

So, my days on the A4 list are probably numbered...  A month ago I got a
2008 A8 to replace the '97 A4...  I plan to list it for sale soon.
