[A8] Transmission fluid contamination

Hi David,
Having the same problem with my tranny..reverse solid, changed tranny fluid
ect...seems like it engages initially and then goes into limp mode. Do not
want to change tranny is it possible it is the valve body or torque
converter. Please let me know what you find out.

My friend's 99 A8 transmission is toast.
Although the code indicated possible 'transmission fluid contamination',
after the trans service it was exactly the same. The contamination may have
been the transmissions internal materials we observed attached to the
magnets. The typical clutch wear. Service has been every 60K, currently
210K.
Symptom was simply that the car would not go forward without engaging
limp-home mode. Then it would slowing accelerate until at cruising it felt
normal, but locked into whatever 'gear' limp-home had chosen. Reverse was
good and solid, I could back up anywhere.
Contemplating the next move.
